Bhubaneswar: The rapid evolution of Artificial Intelligence (AI) reached a significant conversational milestone today as global experts gathered at the SOA Deemed to be University to discuss the future of the technology. During the International AI Conclave, themed ‘India’s AI Future—Role of Academia, Industry, Research and Innovation,’ keynote speaker Prof. (Dr.) Jonnie Penn of the University of Cambridge and Harvard University asserted that machines are on a trajectory to surpass human intelligence.

Prof. (Dr.) Penn highlighted that AI is transitioning from mere data processing to a sophisticated state where machines learn how to learn. He introduced the concept of the intention economy, explaining how AI can maximize the probability of achieving specific objectives while influencing both socio-technical spheres and global climate change efforts.

The event featured a diverse panel of international diplomats and academic leaders who addressed the societal shifts triggered by these advancements. Shri Dharmakumar Seeraj, Ambassador of Guyana to India, noted that AI’s role in daily life and the global economy is now permanent. Addressing the prevalent anxiety regarding automation and employment, Shri Seeraj clarified that the technology does not pose a threat to those who adapt. He emphasized that the jobs of AI-trained individuals remain secure, as the tools will enhance rather than replace human capability.

Echoing this sentiment, SOA Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pradipta Kumar Nanda presided over the session, noting that while AI will support all professions, a shift in the labor market is inevitable. He warned that the true risk lies in the digital divide, suggesting that individuals equipped with AI knowledge will eventually replace those without it.

The conclave also saw contributions from Karlito Nunes, Ambassador of Timor-Leste to India, and Arlette Gabriela Bustamante Garcia, Counsellor at the Embassy of Bolivia in India. The proceedings were initiated by a welcome address from Prof. Prasanta Kumar Patra and coordinated by Prof. Jyoti Ranjan Das. The consensus among the speakers remained clear: as machines become smarter, the focus must shift toward comprehensive AI education and ethical implementation across all sectors of society.
