Cornerstone For Odisha Bhawan

New Delhi: In a significant move to elevate the state’s cultural presence in the national capital, Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi laid the foundation stone for the new Odisha Bhawan at Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, today.

The ceremony, held at the prestigious Kautilya Marg, was attended by a distinguished gathering including Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Shri Jual Oram, Odisha’s Minister for Law, Works, and Excise Shri Prithiviraj Harichandan, and Bargarh MP Shri Pradeep Purohit, alongside Principal Secretary of Works Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh.

The new structure is designed to be a majestic seven-storey landmark that seamlessly blends modern utility with the timeless aesthetics of Odisha’s architectural heritage. Chief Minister Shri Majhi emphasized that the building’s design will be a visual tribute to the state’s rich artistic legacy, featuring intricate stone carvings, motifs inspired by the world-renowned Konark Sun Temple, and the elegant patterns of Sambalpuri Ikat. Beyond its administrative functions, the Odisha Bhawan is envisioned as a vibrant hub for Odia pride, offering a sense of belonging to the diaspora and residents visiting the capital.

Planned with an investment of approximately 93.27 crore, the new complex will replace the outdated previous structure with a contemporary G+6 facility. It is set to house 45 well-appointed suites across general, executive, and VIP categories. A dedicated exhibition gallery on the first floor will serve as a permanent window into Odisha’s crafts and history, while a 70-seat conference hall on the second floor will facilitate high-level administrative coordination.

This project is a key component of the state government’s broader vision to strengthen cultural and administrative ties across India. During the event, the Chief Minister announced that the government has similar plans to establish Odisha Bhawans in other prominent cities including Ayodhya, Bengaluru, and Surat, while also expanding facilities in Mumbai. To ensure these cultural hubs remain in pristine condition, a specialized division will be established for their long-term maintenance.

This new identity for Odisha in Chanakyapuri is expected to become a cornerstone for showcasing the state’s hospitality and “Asmita” (identity) to the world, providing a modern yet soulful home for Odias in the heart of India.
