Odisha Works AI Move

Bhubaneswar: The integration of Artificial Intelligence into the governance of Odisha marks a pivotal shift toward the state’s 2036 developmental goals. By hosting a comprehensive training session at Lok Seva Bhavan, the Department of Works has signaled that AI is no longer a futuristic concept but a functional tool for modern administration.

This initiative, guided by Minister Law, Works and Excise, Shri Prithviraj Harichandan, focuses on leveraging machine learning and automated data processing to accelerate infrastructure projects and streamline bureaucratic workflows.

The strategic collaboration between Minister Works, Shri Prithviraj Harichandan and Principal Secretary Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh is redefining the operational landscape of the Department of Works.

Under this dynamic leadership, the Department of Works is moving beyond traditional engineering practices toward a tech-enabled framework that prioritizes efficiency and transparency.

Principal Secretary Shri Singh’s dual role across Works and Food Supplies allows for a unique cross-pollination of administrative reforms, ensuring that data-driven decision-making becomes a standard across these vital public sectors.

Today’s AI workshop serves as a critical implementation of this vision, providing the technical foundation for the reforms spearheaded by the leadership. By training engineers and administrative staff in AI-based documentation and data analysis, the department is effectively bridging the gap between high-level policy and ground-level execution.

This approach ensures that the “Viksit Odisha 2036” target is supported by a workforce capable of using automated tools to monitor project timelines, manage logistics, and maintain high standards of quality control.

The workshop, facilitated by the Odisha Computer Application Centre, provided engineers and officials with practical insights into how AI can synthesize vast datasets to produce precise documentation and predictive models. For a department tasked with public works and design, these technologies offer the ability to optimize resource allocation, reduce human error in structural planning, and maintain a rigorous pace in project execution.

Key leadership within the department, including EIC and Special Secretary Eng. Laxmikant Padhi, Additional Secretary Shri Deepak Ranjan Das, Engineer In Chief (Design) Eng. Sameer Hota, Joint Secretary (IT) Shri Dipti Ranjan Behera, Financial Advisor Shri Ratikant Mohapatra, Chief Engineer (Building) Eng. Priyabrat Samantaray and other departmental officers and employees were present in this workshop.

This training program was well coordinated by Joint Secretary (IT) Shri Dipti Ranjan Behera, emphasized that this digital literacy is a cornerstone for the Viksit Odisha 2036 Vision. By transforming how data is utilized for decision-making, the state aims to set a benchmark for tech-driven governance that is both accurate and transparent.

This training serves as the initial milestone in a broader strategy to embed intelligent systems within the core functions of the State Government.
