Odisha’s AI Driven GDP Push

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is making a major push to transform its economic identity from a mineral-reliant state to a high-tech powerhouse. The State Government outlined a strategic goal to increase Odisha’s contribution to the national GDP from 3 percent to 5 percent. This objective is part of a broader vision to reach a 500 billion dollar economy by 2036.

Additional Chief Secretary of Energy, Electronics, and IT, Shri Vishal Dev, is leading the charge by prioritizing the execution of high-tech initiatives.

A key milestone in this journey is the establishment of a 20,000 crore sovereign Artificial Intelligence hub in collaboration with Sarvam AI. This project, featuring an AI-optimized infrastructure with 25,000 GPUs, is designed to position Odisha as a credible rival to established tech hubs like Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

Beyond AI, the state has approved significant investments in the semiconductor and electronics sectors. Recent clearances include a 4,620 crore semiconductor memory chip facility in Khurda.

Under the leadership of Shri Vishal Dev, the government has also introduced the Odisha AI Policy 2025 and specialized frameworks for Global Capability Centres to attract global tech giants.

The transition aims to shift the state toward a mind-driven economy. By integrating Odia language models into digital services, the state plans to democratize technology for rural and tribal populations while creating thousands of high-skilled jobs.

With a focus on sectors like healthcare, agriculture, and disaster management, Odisha is leveraging its fiscal health and power-surplus status to become a net exporter of technology and talent.
