Bhubaneswar: Biswa Odia Paribar organized a special event to celebrate Biswa Matrubhasa Diwas on February 21, 2026, in Bhubaneswar. The program was held at the organization’s office in Nayapalli and featured an interactive discussion session chaired by Shri Sajjan Sharma, the Chairman Biswa Odia Paribar.
The discussion, titled Our Identity Our Existence, Our Language Our Responsibility, focused on how the mother tongue serves as a vital symbol of personal and cultural identity. Speakers at the event emphasized that protecting the Odia language is a primary duty, especially as it is one of only 24 scripts used worldwide. While expressing pride in the uniqueness of the Odia language, participants also addressed the various challenges and threats it currently faces.
During the meeting, experts shared thoughtful opinions and proposed several initiatives to address these linguistic concerns. Biswa Odia Paribar also expressed its commitment to supporting the steps taken by the Odisha government for the promotion of Odia language and literature.
A wide range of intellectuals, activists, and professionals participated in the discussion, including Dr. Pratap Pani, labor leader Krishnachandra Mishra, writers Manoranjan Sarangi and Sashibhusan Mishra, and Kalinga TV creative director Rakshak Nayak. Other notable attendees included columnist Kishor Chandra Jena, environmentalist Hadibandhu Panigrahi, and language movement organizer Pabitra Mohan Maharatha. The event concluded with contributions from various speakers who reiterated the importance of preserving their linguistic heritage.
