Cabinet Clears Budget Proposal

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move toward fiscal planning, the State Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi has cleared the proposal for the 2026-27 budget during its 36th meeting held today at the Lok Seva Bhawan Conference Hall.

Following the session, Chief Secretary Smt. Anu Garg briefed the media on the key decisions and departmental approvals.

A total of five proposals were tabled during the meeting. While the specific details of the finance department’s budget proposal will be officially presented in the upcoming Legislative Assembly session starting February 17, the Cabinet also granted approval to four other major items.

These included one proposal from the Labour and Employees’ State Insurance Department and three from the Department of Water Resources.

The government is currently overseeing the final stages of the 2025-26 annual budget, which featured a total outlay of 2.90 lakh crore. That budget prioritized transformative sectors such as infrastructure, urban development, and agriculture, with a significant 65,012 crore allocated for capital outlay.

As the state moves toward the new fiscal year, the current meeting builds on the progress of the 2025-26 roadmap to ensure continued economic momentum.

These approved measures are expected to drive infrastructure development and enhance social security across the state as the government prepares for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
