New Delhi : In order to enhance the digital governance of Waqf assets, the Ministry of Minority Affairs launched two additional modules on the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development (UMEED) Central Portal on Thursday. The new additions, specifically the Survey Module and the Waqf Property Lease Module, aim to bolster transparency and accountability in the administration of these properties across India.
The modules were officially inaugurated by Dr. Chandra Shekhar Kumar, Secretary of the Ministry of Minority Affairs, during a ceremony attended by senior ministry officials. This development follows the initial launch of the UMEED portal by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju in June 2025, which established a centralized platform for the real-time monitoring and verification of Waqf properties under the 1995 Act.
The newly introduced Survey Module is designed to provide a comprehensive digital framework for capturing and updating survey data. It allows for the systematic recording of property details, ensuring that the digital inventory remains accurate and up to date. Complementing this, the Waqf Property Lease Management Module offers an end-to-end solution for handling leasing information. It enables officials to monitor lease periods, amounts, and other critical particulars in a structured manner, reducing the potential for mismanagement.
During the launch, Dr. Kumar emphasized the importance of these tools in modernizing Waqf administration. He urged State and Union Territory Waqf Boards to prioritize the implementation of these modules and to actively raise awareness among eligible beneficiaries to ensure the benefits of the portal reach the grassroots level.
The UMEED portal remains a cornerstone of the ministry’s effort to introduce a paradigm shift in asset management. Its existing features, such as geo-tagging, GIS mapping integration, and online grievance redressal, are now strengthened by these specialized modules. By providing public access to verified records, the ministry hopes to foster greater public participation and trust in the management of Waqf assets nationwide.
