New Delhi: The spirit of a rising and self reliant India resonated at Kartavya Path during the 77th Republic Day celebrations as Odisha’s majestic tableau rolled down the ceremonial boulevard. Capturing the theme of Prosperity through Self Reliance: Atmanirbhar Bharat, the tableau offered a breathtaking visual narrative of the states journey from its deep rooted agricultural foundations to its emerging prowess in high tech semiconductor manufacturing.
The presentation artfully blended Odisha’s ancient soul with its modern aspirations. At the forefront, the tableau featured a base inspired by the sacred chariots of Lord Jagannatha, supporting a rotating display that celebrated women empowerment. This centerpiece depicted the duality of the modern Odia woman: one side honoring tradition with Pattachitra aesthetics and palm leaf manuscripts, and the other representing the contemporary workforce excelling in industries and technology.
The midsection of the float highlighted the states economic diversity. On one side, the aromatic legacy of Koraput Coffee represented sustainable livelihoods and organic excellence, while the other side showcased a silicon semiconductor chip, signaling Odisha’s entry into the global electronics supply chain. The inclusion of a Dokra art inspired bull paid tribute to the Mukhya Mantri Kamdhenu Yojana, underlining the states strides toward becoming self sufficient in dairy production.
Odisha’s unparalleled architectural heritage took center stage at the rear with a magnificent replica of the Konark Sun Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This backdrop was brought to life by live demonstrations from artisans on the deck, who showcased the intricate skills of stone carving, Sabai grass weaving, and the vibrant appliqué work of Pipili.
Every inch of the tableau served as a canvas for the states artistic identity. The sides were draped in Sambalpuri textiles and adorned with tribal motifs and silver filigree patterns from Cuttack. Even the frontal area was decorated with the auspicious motifs of Manabasa Gurubara, reflecting the domestic spiritual traditions of Odia households.
As the tableau passed the presidential dais, folk dancers performed the energetic Chaiti Ghoda dance, a tradition dating back to the 16th century, synchronizing ancient rhythms with the message of modern progress. Having secured the first prize in 2024 and significant acclaim in 2025, Odisha’s 2026 presentation once again reaffirmed the states vital role in the social and economic fabric of India.
