Focus On Factory Safety

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has intensified its efforts to ensure the highest safety standards in industrial units across the state. Under the proactive leadership of Shri Indramani Tripathy, Director of Factories and Boilers and Commissioner of Labour, a comprehensive state-level plan for accident prevention is being established to foster a zero-accident culture in the workplace.

Recently, a high-level review meeting was convened in the state capital to evaluate existing safety protocols and prepare a robust roadmap for the future. Chaired by Shri Indramani Tripathy, the meeting focused on the dual necessity of technical compliance and grassroots awareness. As the head of both the Directorate of Factories and Boilers and the Labour Commissionerate, Shri Tripathy has been instrumental in bridging the gap between management responsibilities and worker welfare.

During the deliberations, it was emphasized that safety should not be viewed merely as a statutory obligation but as a fundamental social responsibility. The Director noted that the structural integrity of factories, particularly concerning high-pressure systems like boilers and furnaces, requires rigorous preventive maintenance and adherence to engineering standards.

Working closely on these initiatives, Dr. Malay Kumar Pradhan, Deputy Director (Safety), has been leading specialized training workshops across various industrial clusters. These programs are designed to empower safety committees and officers with advanced skills in hazard identification and risk assessment. Dr. Pradhan highlighted that a collective moral responsibility among the workforce is the most effective tool in preventing industrial mishaps.

The state government is now focusing on a multi-pronged approach that includes regular safety audits, the certification of accredited safety officers, and the implementation of a behavior-based safety culture. By engaging with major industrial stakeholders and providing hands-on training to the labor force, the Directorate aims to transform Odisha into a global benchmark for industrial harmony and worker security.

As Odisha continues to expand its industrial footprint, the Directorate of Factories and Boilers remains committed to ensuring that every worker returns home safely, reinforcing the vision that productivity and safety must go hand in hand.
