SWC Boosts Green Power

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to bolster the state’s green energy landscape, Shri Vishal Dev, the Principal Secretary of Energy and Electronics & Information Technology (E&IT), chaired the 15th Single Window Committee (SWC) meeting under the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy 2022 (OREP-2022).

The high-level meeting resulted in the approval of several large-scale renewable energy projects, marking a continued momentum in Odisha’s transition toward sustainable power sources.

As the Head of the SWC, Shri Vishal Dev emphasized the state government’s commitment to creating a seamless investment environment. He highlighted that these approvals are part of a broader strategy to meet the state’s Renewable Purchase Obligations (RPO) and contribute to India’s national climate goals.

Under his leadership, the Energy Department has been focused on streamlining the clearance process to ensure that clean energy projects transition from proposal to implementation without unnecessary delays.

The 15th SWC meeting saw active participation from a diverse group of key industry stakeholders and senior government officials. Representative officials from GRIDCO Odisha, the state’s various DISCOMs (Distribution Companies), and the Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL) were in attendance. The session also included experts from PwC India, senior leaders from the Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC), and key representatives from the Energy Department.

The collective expertise of these stakeholders ensured a rigorous evaluation of the technical and financial viability of each project. By bringing together transmission, distribution, and policy experts, the meeting facilitated a holistic review of how these new projects will integrate into the existing state grid.

Principal Secretary Shri Vishal Dev noted that the approval of these projects not only supports environmental sustainability but also acts as a catalyst for socio-economic development. The expansion of the renewable sector is expected to generate local employment and attract further industrial investment into the state, particularly in the E&IT and manufacturing sectors where green energy is becoming a prerequisite for global competitiveness.

This 15th edition of the Single Window Committee meeting further solidifies Odisha’s position as a proactive hub for renewable energy in India. The state continues to leverage its natural potential in solar, wind, and hybrid energy systems under the framework provided by OREP-2022
