Water 24X7 For Sambalpur

Sambalpur: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has officially laid the foundation stone for a major water supply project in Sambalpur to address the city’s long-standing water crisis. The project, valued at over 451 crore rupees, is designed to provide clean drinking water 24 hours a day to the residents of the region.

Under this initiative, a 340-kilometer pipeline network will be installed across the city. The infrastructure will include a new intake well and two modern water treatment plants. One plant, with a capacity of 65 million liters per day, will serve the Sambalpur area, while a second plant with a 35 million liter capacity will be built in Burla.

The Chief Minister informed the media that the project will supply a total of 100 million liters of water daily. This will benefit approximately 5 lakh people living across 41 wards. Currently, the city faces a shortage of about 30 million liters per day during the summer months. Once the project is finished, this deficit will be eliminated, ensuring a consistent and reliable water supply.

The project is being implemented as part of the Drink from Tap mission under the central government’s Amrit 2.0 scheme. This system allows residents to consume water directly from their taps without the need for additional home filtration. The Chief Minister noted that providing safe and high-quality water will significantly improve the standard of living for the people of Sambalpur.

Several high-ranking officials attended the ceremony, including Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, Rural Development Minister Rabi Narayan Naik, and Sambalpur MLA Jayanarayan Mishra.
