Odisha Automates Paddy Payments

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to streamline the agrarian economy, the Odisha Government has effectively mobilized the paddy procurement process. The paddy procurement has commenced in 18 districts of the state for the current Kharif season.

The initiative demonstrates a robust systemic synthesis of technology and administrative oversight, ensuring that the fruits of labor reach the genuine tillers of the soil, thanks to the pro-active move by the Team Civil Supplies, led by Principal Secretary Food, Supplies and Consumer Welfare, Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh.

According to official data, a total of 2,71,318 farmers have successfully sold their paddy at designated nearest mandis. Reflecting a commitment to socio-legal precision and financial integrity, payments have already been successfully credited to 1,85,820 farmers. This represents a substantial capital infusion into the rural sector, with Rs 2,247.52 crore disbursed as Minimum Support Price (MSP) and an additional Rs 693.51 crore provided as Input Assistance.

The current procurement cycle marks a historic shift with the implementation of Aadhaar-based payments. This strategic intervention ensures that only genuine farmers registered on the Paddy Procurement Automation System (P-PAS) portal receive their dues directly into their bank accounts. While the transition has been largely seamless, the government has proactively identified a minor margin of failed transactions—amounting to less than one percent—stemming from systemic issues such as account freezes, Aadhaar de-seeding, pending KYC, or transaction limits.

To maintain moral urgency in addressing these discrepancies, the Odisha State Civil Supplies Corporation (OSCSC) Headquarters is directly contacting affected farmers on their registered mobile numbers. Simultaneously, at the district level, the District Registrar of Cooperative Societies (DRCS) offices are facilitating the rectification of bank details to prevent any delay in compensation.

Farmers are urged to update their KYC details immediately at their respective bank branches to ensure uninterrupted payment. For personal assistance or clarification, the OSCSC Headquarters remains accessible to the farming community, who can also utilize the toll-free helpline number 1967 for prompt support.
