SNM Group Scales Up CSR Initiative

Bhubaneswar: In a significant recalibration of corporate priorities, the SNM Group, a prominent multifaceted conglomerate in Odisha, has dramatically expanded the scale and scope of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities throughout 2025. This escalation represents a systemic synthesis of industrial growth and socio-legal obligation, moving beyond conventional philanthropy toward a model of sustainable regional empowerment. Led by Chairman Dr. Pradipta Mohanty and Managing Director Dr. Prabodh Mohanty, the Group has utilized its diversified expertise in mining, infrastructure, and renewable energy to address deep-seated developmental gaps in the state’s socio-economic landscape.

The Group’s 2025 CSR framework is characterized by a high degree of moral urgency, particularly in the preservation of Odisha’s cultural and environmental integrity. A cornerstone of this year’s initiatives was the sponsorship and successful launch of the Mahanadi Boita Race during the Bali Yatra celebrations in Cuttack. This project, executed in collaboration with the Odisha Department of Tourism, served as more than a sporting event; it was a deliberate restoration of the state’s ancient maritime legacy. By reviving the memory of the Sadhabas—the historic sea traders of Kalinga—the SNM Group provided a tangible link between the present generation and a heritage of global commerce and cultural exchange.

Environmental stewardship has emerged as another critical pillar of the Group’s expanded operations. In late 2024 and throughout 2025, the SNM Group intensified its support for climate action and wildlife conservation. A notable manifestation of this commitment was the establishment of the Exotic Primate Complex at Nandan Kanan Zoological Park. The Group facilitated the addition of rare species, including the Cotton Top Tamarin and Siamang, which has been lauded by the Ministry of Forest, Environment, and Climate Change. This intervention reflects a layered causality in the Group’s strategy: recognizing that industrial expansion in a mineral-rich state like Odisha necessitates a proportional investment in biodiversity to mitigate ecological displacement.

Furthermore, the Group has demonstrated a commitment to systemic development through its active role in the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the 15th CSR Leadership Summit 2025. With Dr. Pradipta Mohanty serving as the Chairman of the CII Odisha State Council for the 2024-25 term, the SNM Group has been at the forefront of advocating for a more equitable distribution of CSR funds. Currently, only a small fraction of national CSR expenditure reaches Eastern India, a regional imbalance the Group is working to rectify through evidence-based narratives on the state’s industrial potential and social needs.

The expansion of the SNM Charitable Trust has further institutionalized these efforts, focusing on health hospitality, education, and agricultural development. By providing direct market linkages to small and marginal farmers and upgrading rural educational infrastructure, the Group is addressing the root causes of economic migration. In the spiritual and social heart of the state, the Group remains deeply devoted to the service of Lord Jagannatha, integrating traditional values into its modern corporate ethos. As the 2025 fiscal year concludes, the SNM Group’s scaled-up activities serve as a benchmark for how indigenous private enterprises can drive inclusive growth while maintaining the highest standards of socio-legal precision and community accountability.
