Bhubaneswar: Direct flight operations between Bhubaneswar and Rourkela are set to commence from December 5, 2025, marking a new chapter in seamless regional air connectivity for Odisha.
The announcement was made by Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi on his X platform, where he stated, “Odisha soars higher with #BMAAN! Direct Bhubaneswar-Rourkela flights will take off from 5 December 2025, marking another milestone in seamless regional connectivity. Closer cities. Greater opportunities. Stronger Odisha. Together, we rise.”
The service is expected to be operated by Alliance Air under the Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN) scheme, although the Chief Minister’s message highlighted the state’s own Building Management of Aviation Assets and Network (B-MAAN) initiative, which has been instrumental in expanding the air network across Odisha.
The flight, designated as a non-stop service, is anticipated to significantly reduce travel time between the state capital, Bhubaneswar (Biju Patnaik International Airport – BBI), and the industrial hub of Rourkela (Rourkela Airport – RRK). Flight duration for the route is typically around 55 minutes to one hour and 15 minutes.
While detailed official timings for the December 5 launch on this route has been scheduled by the operator, India One Air. Flight will operate all days except Thursday.
The inauguration of this direct air link is expected to bolster economic activities and social exchange, connecting the coastal and western regions of the state more efficiently. The direct connectivity is a fulfillment of the state government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and promoting regional growth.
The new flight aligns with the ‘Stronger Odisha’ vision articulated by Chief Minister Shri Majhi, aiming to leverage air travel for increased commerce, tourism, and investment opportunities across the state.
