Maa Ramadevi Tributes Paid

Bhubaneswar: The Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department and the Odisha Sahitya Akademi today organized a commemorative ceremony to mark the birth anniversary of the legendary freedom fighter and social reformer, Maa Ramadevi.

The event, held in Bhubaneswar, saw Odia Language, Literature & Culture Minister Shri Surjyabanshi Suraj attending as the Chief Guest. Dr. Bijay Ketan Upadhyay, Secretary of the Department, graced the occasion.

In his address, Minister Shri Suraj paid rich tributes to Rama Devi, noting that her life embodied the principle of “simple living and high thinking.” He highlighted her deep connection to the Swadeshi movement and her profound contributions to India’s struggle for independence. The Minister expressed confidence that the youth of Odisha would draw inspiration from her ideals as they contribute to the vision of a “Vikshit Odisha by 2036.”

Ekamra MLA Shri Babu Singh, the Guest of Honour, emphasized Rama Devi’s role as a champion of Swaraj and social justice, and her efforts in enhancing the social and political participation of women in Odisha. He described her life as a guiding light for all citizens.

Esteemed author Shri Pradyumna Satpathy spoke on the wider significance of her work, stating that Maa Ramadevi’s mission and legacy serve as a perennial source of inspiration for women not just in Odisha, but across India.

Shri Deba Prasad Dash, Special Secretary, also shared insightful reflections on her multifaceted life. Dr. Chandra Sekhar Hota, Secretary of Odisha Sahitya Akademi, conducted the proceedings, ensuring a fitting tribute to the iconic figure whose commitment to grassroots service and national freedom defined an era.
