PM Modi Urges Duty

New Delhi: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi marked Constitution Day on November 26th by writing a letter to the citizens of India, recalling the historic adoption of the Constitution in 1949 and underscoring its pivotal role in national progress. He noted that the Government declared November 26th as Constitution Day in 2015 to honor the sacred document.

Shri Modi highlighted the Constitution’s power to enable individuals from humble backgrounds, including himself, to serve the nation at the highest levels. He recalled his personal acts of reverence, such as bowing at the steps of Parliament in 2014 and placing the Constitution on his forehead in 2019, emphasizing that the document provides countless citizens with the power to dream and the strength to realize those dreams.

The Prime Minister paid tribute to the framers of the Constitution, including Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, and the distinguished women members whose vision enriched the text. He reflected on past commemorative milestones, such as the Samvidhan Gaurav Yatra in Gujarat and the nationwide programs for the Constitution’s 75th anniversary.

Shri Modi noted that this year’s Constitution Day is especially significant as it coincides with the 150th birth anniversaries of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, and the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. He stressed that these anniversaries remind the nation of the primacy of duties, as enshrined in Article 51A of the Constitution. Recalling Mahatma Gandhi’s belief that rights flow from the performance of duties, he asserted that fulfilling one’s duties is the foundation for social and economic progress.

Looking ahead, the Prime Minister observed that India will soon mark a century of freedom in just over two decades, and the Constitution will complete a century since its adoption in 2049. He underscored that the policies and decisions made today will shape future generations and urged citizens to place their duties foremost as India strives towards the vision of a Viksit Bharat.

Shri Modi stressed the responsibility of strengthening democracy through the exercise of the right to vote. He suggested that schools and colleges celebrate Constitution Day by honoring first-time voters turning 18, expressing confidence that inspiring youth with responsibility and pride will strengthen democratic values and the nation’s future.

Concluding his letter, the Prime Minister called upon all citizens to reaffirm their pledge to fulfil their duties, thereby contributing meaningfully to building a developed and empowered India.
