Bhubaneswar: A significant placement drive under the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS) is conducted today at the premises of the Utkal Chamber Of Commerce & Industry Limited (UCCIL) here.
Senior officials are actively coordinating the program’s implementation across the country. Shri Sourabh Raha, a Senior Official of the Registrar of Companies, Cuttack, is overseeing the program coordination, ensuring its effective rollout.
The drive aimed to connect eligible youth with internship opportunities offered by India’s top companies under the flagship central government initiative.

The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS), a key initiative of the Government of India launched on October 3, 2024, is rapidly gaining momentum in its goal to bridge the gap between academic education and industry requirements for young Indians.
The scheme, announced in the Union Budget 2024-25, is designed to tackle youth unemployment by offering one crore paid, 12-month internship opportunities over the next five years.
The PMIS targets Indian citizens aged 21 to 24 who are not currently engaged in full-time employment or full-time education. Interns selected for the program are placed in India’s top 500 companies, providing them with invaluable hands-on work experience and essential skill development.
Financial support for the interns is a significant component of the scheme. Each intern receives a monthly stipend of ₹5,000, with ₹4,500 contributed by the government and ₹500 by the participating companies.

Furthermore, a one-time grant of ₹6,000 is provided to cover incidental expenses. Interns are also covered under government insurance schemes, including the PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana.
Eligible youth can apply by registering on the official PMIS Portal at pminternship.mca.gov.in, completing their profile, and applying for suitable internships listed by the participating companies. The scheme is poised to significantly enhance the employability and skill readiness of India’s young workforce.
The UCCIL premises served as a central hub for the event, reflecting the active role of industry bodies in supporting the central government’s skill development and youth empowerment agenda.
