Bihar Poll: Record Turnout

Patna: Bihar Legislative Assembly elections 2025 concluded on Tuesday with the second phase of polling recording a historic voter turnout, which surpassed the figures from the first phase. The state witnessed an overall provisional turnout of 66.91 per cent, the highest since the first state polls in 1951. Women voters significantly outnumbered men, with a turnout of 71.6 per cent for women compared to 62.8 per cent for men across both phases.

The second and final phase of voting, held on Tuesday, saw a provisional turnout of 67.14 per cent till 5 PM, covering 122 constituencies across 20 districts. This surpassed the 65.08 per cent recorded in the first phase on November 6.

Kishanganj district recorded the highest voter turnout in the second phase at 76.26 per cent. Kishanganj is part of the Seemanchal region, which has a significant minority population. Other districts in the Seemanchal area also reported high turnouts, including Katihar at 75.23 per cent and Purnia at 73.79 per cent.

In contrast, Nawada district registered the lowest turnout in the second phase at 57.11 per cent, the only district to remain below the 60 per cent mark till the evening update. Other districts with lower participation included Rohtas at 60.69 per cent and Madhubani at 61.79 per cent.

The high voter participation came after a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, which saw the deletion of a large number of names, particularly in the Seemanchal region. Opposition parties raised concerns about the revision process, while the Election Commission maintained its transparency.

The counting of votes for both phases of the Bihar Assembly elections is scheduled for November 14. Exit polls released after the conclusion of the second phase on Tuesday evening generally predicted a clear majority for the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
