Deogarh: The Sansad Sports Festival for the Sambalpur Lok Sabha constituency commenced today at the IG Stadium in Deogarh Tilaibani, marking the start of a unique 19-day initiative aimed at unearthing hidden athletic potential across rural and urban areas of Sambalpur and surrounding districts.
This multi-day grassroots event aligns directly with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s national campaigns, ‘Fit India’ and ‘Khelo India,’ and the sporting objectives embedded in the ‘National Education Policy.’
The festival was officially inaugurated by Shrimati Mridula Thakur Pradhan, Chairperson of the Vikas Foundation, who was present as a prominent dignitary at the opening ceremony.
Speaking at the inauguration, Shrimati Pradhan emphasized the significant role of sports in developing essential life skills. She highlighted that participation in such competitions fosters confidence, discipline, and a spirit of unity among the youth.
The enthusiasm displayed by the students and young participants was commendable, underscoring the community’s desire for such platforms.
The event, which will span blocks across Deogarh, Dhenkanal, and Angul districts, is set to provide a vital opportunity for athletes aged 14 to 23 to showcase their talents in events like sprints, discus throw, shot put, kho-kho, and kabaddi.
By providing a platform for grassroots talent, the Sansad Sports Festival is expected to play an important role in the coming days in fulfilling the goals of national fitness and educational policies.
