Bhubaneswar: NMDC Limited, India’s largest iron ore producer, today announced its best-ever second-quarter performance in FY26, buoyed by strong domestic steel demand and robust mining operations. The company posted all-time high production and sales volumes, alongside significant growth in key financial parameters.
The operational momentum of the company was evident in the Q2 FY26 figures: Production soared to 10.21 million tonnes (MT), marking a substantial 23% increase year-on-year. Sales volumes reached 10.72 MT, an increase of 10% over Q2 FY25. Turnover surged by ₹6,261 crore. Profit Before Tax (PBT) rose 35% to ₹2,271 crore. Profit After Tax (PAT) grew by 33% to ₹1,694 crore and EBITDA climbed 32% to ₹2,385 crore.
While NMDC’s major operational mines are currently located in Chhattisgarh and Karnataka, its future strategic expansion heavily focuses on Odisha. The state, being a powerhouse of high-quality iron ore reserves, is central to NMDC’s ambitious vision.
NMDC maintains a presence in the state through its Regional Office in Bhubaneswar and it has been actively pursuing the reservation of key iron ore deposits in Odisha, such as the Malangtoli mine, to secure raw material access for its goal of achieving 100 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) iron ore production capacity by 2030.
Commenting on the results and future, Shri Amitava Mukherjee, Chairman and MD, NMDC, reinforced this strategy. “Record production, record sales, and strong financial growth this quarter are all indicators of our historic reliability,” he said. He added, “Going forward, our strategic efforts are guided by the responsibility to achieve self-sufficiency in steelmaking raw materials while also reaching net-zero emissions.”
The quest for mining leases in Odisha is seen as a critical step in NMDC’s strategy to expand its geographical footprint and meet the growing industrial aspirations of the nation. NMDC’s existing iron ore operations are located at the Bailadila complexes in Chhattisgarh and the Donimalai complex in Karnataka.
