Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi is set to lead the state’s significant delegation at the prestigious India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025 in Mumbai, underscoring Odisha’s renewed focus on reclaiming its historic maritime legacy and driving port-led industrial growth.
The Chief Minister will attend the inaugural session as a Guest of Honour on October 27, before spearheading the dedicated Odisha Special Session to invite global investment.
Odisha’s robust participation in the global summit reflects the government’s vision to transform the state into a major maritime and coastal economic development hub in Eastern India, aligning with the national ‘Blue Economy’ mission.
The state’s presence at IMW 2025, which also coincides with the completion of 500 days of the Majhi Government, will highlight massive investment opportunities and strategic infrastructure development:
The Paradip Port Authority (PPA) is geared up to sign Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth an estimated ₹1.5 lakh crore during the event. These deals span critical sectors, including shipbuilding, ship repair, port modernisation, smart port initiatives, and green hydrogen projects. Notably, Paradip has recently been designated as a Green Hydrogen Hub, positioning it at the forefront of India’s sustainable energy transition.
Odisha is slated to sign an MoU for the development of a cruise terminal in Puri, a major thrust to maritime tourism. The project is planned near the proposed Shree Jagannath International Airport, with future phases aiming to extend the terminal to Paradip.
The state will showcase other key initiatives like the development of the Greenfield Port at Bahuda with a capacity of 150 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) and the establishment of a shipbuilding centre in Kendrapara district, both crucial for employment generation and industrial growth.
The state is scheduled to unveil the Odisha Inland Vessel Rules, 2025, a landmark regulatory framework designed to strengthen inland water transport and maritime governance.
The Odisha session will feature the release of a White Paper on the Odisha Maritime Perspective Plan (OMPP), outlining a long-term roadmap for integrated development, and a coffee table book chronicling the state’s evolution from the ancient Kalinga maritime prowess to its modern ambitions.
The State delegation, led by Chief Minister Shri Majhi, will extend an open invitation to domestic and international investors to explore partnerships in port-based industries, logistics, fisheries, and maritime technology.
The strategic location of Odisha with its extensive coastline, coupled with the state’s favourable policies and focus on green industrial growth, is being pitched to secure large-scale investment commitments, further cementing its role as a strategic gateway for trade, innovation, and sustainable maritime development.
