Coastal Odisha Faces Heavy Rains

Bhubaneswar: Coastal Odisha districts experienced heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours, even as the atmospheric trough that was influencing the weather has significantly weakened.

The trough extending from north Bihar and its neighbourhood to north Odisha across Jharkhand, located at 1.5 km above mean sea level, has become less marked, indicating a receding weather system.

Despite the weakening system, light to moderate rain or thundershowers occurred at many places across Odisha. Heavy rainfall was reported at one or two places, particularly in the coastal districts of Puri, Kendrapara, and Gajapati.

The highest amounts of rainfall recorded in centimeters include: Puri (8 cm), Rajkanika (Kendrapara) (7 cm), Gosani (Gajapati) (7 cm), Chandbali (Bhadrak) (6 cm) and Aul (Kendrapara) (5 cm).

Several other locations, including Dharmagarh (Kalahandi), Joda (Keonjhargarh), Patnagarh (Bolangir), Lathikata (Sundargarh), Kakatpur (Puri), and Bhuban (Dhenkanal), also recorded 4 cm of rain.

In terms of temperature, the highest maximum temperature across the state was recorded at Nayagarh at 33.5∘C. Conversely, the plains of South Odisha recorded the lowest minimum temperature at Phulbani, where the mercury dipped to 20.0∘C.

Weather officials will continue to monitor the situation, although the significant reduction in the weather system suggests an improvement in conditions. Residents are advised to stay updated on local forecasts.
