South Odisha On High Alert

Bhubaneswar: Coastal regions of South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh are bracing for severe weather as a developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal is set to intensify rapidly and make landfall in the early hours of Friday, October 3rd, 2025.

The Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar confirmed today that the Well Marked Low Pressure Area over the West Central Bay of Bengal remained in the same region as of 0830 hours IST. The system is characterized by an associated cyclonic circulation that extends up to 9.6 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestwards with increasing height.

The system is currently on a north-northwestward track and is expected to undergo significant strengthening:

  • Next 12 Hours: It is likely to concentrate into a Depression over the same region.
  • Subsequent Period: Continuing its movement, it is forecast to intensify further into a deep depression.

The most critical period is forecast for the night of October 2nd, leading up to the landfall.

The Deep Depression is projected to cross the coasts of South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh during the early morning of 3rd October.

Authorities in the potentially affected districts of both states have been put on high alert. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea, and coastal residents are urged to monitor official weather bulletins closely and adhere to any evacuation or safety instructions issued by local administration.
