Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has called the roof collapse at Platform-1 of Cuttack Railway Station a result of gross negligence by the Railway Department and its contractor. The incident, which occurred amid long-running repair and modernization work, has been described as a setback for passengers who are already facing significant inconvenience.
Following the incident, which left one person injured and hospitalized, BJD leaders including Cuttack-Choudwar MLA Shri Souvik Biswal, Cuttack Mayor Shri Subash Singh, and Cuttack District BJD President Shri Prafulla Singh visited the site to assess the damage and oversee rescue operations.
“The Railway Department must immediately address the construction work, which has been progressing at a sluggish pace,” said Shri Biswal, emphasizing the need for swift completion of the project. Cuttack Mayor Shri Subash Singh blamed the “reckless attitude of the contractor” for the accident.
Shri Prafulla Singh stated that a major tragedy was narrowly avoided, as the Vande Bharat train had passed just minutes before the collapse. He called for an immediate investigation and urged for strict action against the contractor and railway officials found responsible.
The party leaders collectively stressed that the Railway Authorities must remain vigilant to prevent future incidents, added, Dr.Priyabrata Majhi, Media Coordinator, BJD.
