Balangir: A political debate has ignited over the proposed location of a new agriculture university in Odisha, with Balangir’s MLA, Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, questioning the government’s intentions.
The BJD lawmaker has demanded clarification from the Government of Odisha regarding an earlier proposal to establish the university in Balangir.
This comes in light of a recent meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister K.V. Singh Deo to discuss a proposal for a similar institution in Sambalpur.
Speaking to the press, Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo stated that an agriculture university was a “rightful demand” for Balangir. He expressed disappointment that the project seemed to be “shifted” away from the district.
His remarks underscore a growing concern among local leaders and residents who believe that Balangir, a region with a significant agrarian population, would greatly benefit from such an institution.
The issue came to the forefront after Deputy Chief Minister K.V. Singh Deo held a meeting to review a proposal for an agriculture university in Sambalpur.
This meeting has led to speculation that the government may be reconsidering the location, prompting Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo to seek a clear and public statement on the matter.
The BJD lawmaker has urged the government to confirm whether it still plans to establish an agriculture university in Balangir.
The move has put the spotlight on the state government, with both BJD and BJP leaders now involved in the discussion.
The public awaits a response from the government to clear the air on the future of the proposed agriculture university and its location.
