NRAI Prez Lauds Sports Minister

New Delhi: In a significant move for Indian sports administration, Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, President of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), has voiced strong support for the recently passed National Sports Governance Bill.

Speaking to DD India, Shri Singh Deo stated his belief that the bill will bring much-needed clarity and create a healthy balance between the autonomy of sports federations and government oversight.

He commended the Union Sports Minister, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviyaji and his Team for drafting a bill that effectively addresses the “muddled situation” that previously plagued sports administration.

While acknowledging that the full impact of the bill will become clear as the rules and interpretations evolve, he remains optimistic about its provisions.

NRAI President Shri Singh Deo highlighted several key benefits of the new legislation:

Athlete Empowerment: The bill’s mandatory inclusion of sportspersons in sports administration is a positive step. He believes it will empower athletes by providing a platform for them to voice concerns without fear of reprisal.

Accountability and Funding: The NRAI President agreed that federations, which receive significant government funding, must be held accountable for the proper use of these funds.

Minimizing Legal Disputes: He expressed confidence that the bill will significantly reduce the number of legal complexities and lawsuits that have historically hindered sports governance.

Fair Selection Process: The establishment of tribunals under the new law is particularly beneficial for athletes who feel their selections are unfair, offering a dedicated avenue for dispute resolution.

According to Shri Singh Deo, NRAI is already implementing some of the key points for the benefit of athelets and he said the bill marks a turning point, ushering in a new era of transparency and accountability that will ultimately benefit Indian sports and its athletes.
