CM Seeks More Rice Procurement

New Delhi: Odisha Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi today called on Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Shri Pralhad Joshi here on 6 August to discuss critical issues concerning rice procurement and food security in the state.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo and other Members of Parliament from Odisha were also present during the meeting.

During the high-level discussion, Chief Minister Shri Majhi emphasized the anticipated surplus in rice production in Odisha for the upcoming season and requested a significant enhancement of the rice procurement target for the state.

He also urged the Union Minister for an increase in the monthly lifting of rice by the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to ensure timely evacuation of the procured grain, which is crucial for efficient storage and farmer welfare.

Shri Majhi further highlighted the proactive measures undertaken by the Odisha Government to bolster food security and safeguard farmers’ interests.

These initiatives include the promotion of millets as an alternative crop and the expansion of storage infrastructure across the state. The Chief Minister reiterated Odisha’s commitment to strengthening its food security framework and ensuring that farmers receive adequate support for their produce.

The meeting underscores the state’s efforts to collaborate with the central government on agricultural policies and food management, aiming for better outcomes for farmers and consumers in Odisha.
