CM’s Fruitful Vision

Bhubaneswar: In a heartfelt appeal that resonated with a profound sense of responsibility, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has called upon every citizen and government employee to move beyond the simple act of planting trees and embrace the long-term commitment of nurturing them. His vision is not merely about increasing green cover but about ensuring a sustainable and thriving future for every sapling planted.

During a review of the ambitious “One Day 75 Lakh Tree Plantation” program, scheduled for September 17, 2025, to commemorate Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday, the Chief Minister’s passion was palpable.

He emphasized that the true success of the program lies in the meticulous care and maintenance of the newly planted trees. “It is not enough to just plant trees,” he stated, “we must take responsibility for how these trees will have a better future.”

This sentiment reflects a deep-seated belief that environmental stewardship is a shared duty, a legacy we owe to our children and grandchildren.

The program, led by the dedicated ACS Home, Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Satyabrata Sahu, is a monumental undertaking. Shri Sahu, known for his hard working and proactive approach, is spearheading the effort to ensure the Chief Minister’s vision becomes a reality. This gigantic task involves the coordinated effort of countless individuals, from senior officials to local panchayat officers.

Chief Minister Shri Majhi’s personal preference for planting fruit-bearing trees shone through during the review. He expressed a desire for a greater emphasis on varieties like Panasa (jackfruit), Pijuli (guava), and Amla, so that the people of Odisha can enjoy the fruits of their labor. This focus on providing sustenance and joy to the populace underscores his deep love for the people and his commitment to their well-being.

To encourage participation and accountability, the Chief Minister Shri Majhi proposed a system of rewards for exemplary performance at both individual and group levels. He also directed that photos and data of all planted trees be uploaded to the ‘Meri Life’ portal, ensuring transparency and effective monitoring. Panchayat officers have been tasked with accelerating this work and overseeing the program’s progress in rural areas.

This initiative is more than just a tree plantation drive; it is a movement to instill a sense of ownership and care for our natural world. By entrusting every citizen with the responsibility of a single tree, Chief Minister Shri Majhi is sowing the seeds of a greener, healthier, and more compassionate Odisha, one sapling at a time.

The emotional core of this program lies in its recognition that true growth is not just measured in numbers, but in the enduring life of every tree that stands as a testament to our collective love for nature and our community.
