Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Honorable Chief Minister of Assam, has consistently lauded the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) and its Managing Director, Dr. Krishan Kumar, for their unwavering commitment to accelerating road infrastructure development in the state. In a meeting on July 30, 2025, where Dr. Kumar briefed the Chief Minister on key project progress, further reinforced this strong appreciation.
Chief Minister Sarma has on multiple occasions expressed his satisfaction with NHIDCL’s proactive approach. During an earlier meeting on April 7, 2025, in New Delhi, the Chief Minister had a detailed discussion with Dr. Kumar regarding ongoing highway projects under NHIDCL in Assam.
At that time, Chief Minister Dr.Sarma specifically requested Dr. Kumar to expedite crucial projects, including the 19.28 km long, 4-lane bridge over the Brahmaputra River connecting Dhubri in Assam and Phulbari in Meghalaya, the ambitious Rs. 25,000 crore Guwahati-Silchar Express Way, the Numaligarh-Gohpur underwater tunnel, and the expansion of the National Highway network from Baihata Chariali to Tezpur and Gohpur to Kulajan.
Following that meeting, Chief Minister Dr.Sarma had publicly expressed “unanimous confidence” in completing the Jorhat-Dibrugarh section of the National Highway by December 31, 2025, a significant milestone and this commitment underscored his trust in NHIDCL’s capabilities.
Furthermore, in a meeting on August 22, 2024, Chief Minister Dr.Sarma had already appreciated Dr. Krishan Kumar’s efforts to speed up highway projects in Assam. He was particularly pleased to learn that Dr. Kumar was continuously monitoring the National Highway development in the border state and had personally conducted inspections of ongoing projects within the Bilasipara-Guwahati Corridor, the Jogighopa Bridge Project, MMLP, and other infrastructure initiatives.
Chief Minister Dr.Sarma’s consistent recognition highlights NHIDCL’s pivotal role in transforming Assam’s connectivity landscape. His appreciation extends to not just the progress but also the high standards of quality and safety that NHIDCL is committed to upholding, as evidenced by the successful rehabilitation of the Gammon Bridge and the construction of the Bailey Bridge across the Harang River in Silchar.
These projects exemplify the dedication of NHIDCL under Dr. Krishan Kumar’s leadership, and his continious visit to project zones for quality and time line adherence. This is set to revolutionize connectivity and boost socio-economic development across Assam and the wider Northeast region.
