Jagdeep Dhankhar Resigns

New Delhi: Jagdeep Dhankhar has resigned from his position as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, citing the need to prioritize his health and abide by medical advice. The resignation was tendered today, July 21, 2025, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution.

In a letter addressed to the President, Shri Dhankhar expressed his “deepest gratitude” to the President for “her unwavering support and the soothing wonderful working relationship” maintained during his tenure. He also extended “deep gratitude to the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the esteemed Council of Ministers,” acknowledging their “cooperation and support” which he stated “have been invaluable.”

Shri Dhankhar’s letter highlighted the “warmth, trust, and affection” he received from “all the Hon’ble Members of Parliament,” which he said would “ever be cherished and embedded in my memory.”

Reflecting on his time in office, the outgoing Vice President stated, “It has been a privilege and satisfaction to witness and partake in India’s remarkable economic progress and unprecedented exponential development during this significant period. Serving in this transformative era of our nation’s history has been a true honor.”

He concluded his letter by expressing his confidence in India’s future, stating, “As I leave this esteemed office, I am filled with pride in Bharat’s global rise and phenomenal achievements and hold unwavering confidence in her brilliant future.”
