New Delhi: In a significant move to propel India into the forefront of global smart manufacturing, the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) under the Ministry of Finance organized a pivotal workshop on Industry 4.0 in New Delhi yesterday, July 18, 2025. The day-long event convened leading experts, policymakers, and top leadership from Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) to chart a collaborative roadmap for the widespread adoption and scaling of cutting-edge technologies across vital sectors including Energy, Power, Construction, Infrastructure, Telecom, and Services.
Shri K. Moses Chalai, Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises, inaugurated the workshop, emphasizing the critical importance of embracing the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) as a national mission. In his address, Shri Chalai advocated for a “Whole-of-CPSEs” (WoC) approach, mirroring the “Whole-of-Government” framework. He urged all CPSEs to collaboratively integrate 4IR enablers such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Digital Twins, 3D Printing, and 5G-enabled smart infrastructure into their operational paradigms.
The Secretary further highlighted that Industry 4.0 integration is being considered for future incorporation into the CPSE MoU assessment framework, underscoring that early adoption will be paramount for enhancing India’s global competitiveness.
The workshop served as a crucial platform for interactive discussions on strategic roadmaps, capacity building, and sector-specific applications of Industry 4.0 technologies. Participation saw active engagement from Chairmen and Managing Directors (CMDs) and Directors of prominent CPSEs, including NTPC, NHPC, GAIL, CONCOR, IRCTC, RITES, AAI, and WAPCOS, among others.
This initiative by the DPE signals a strong commitment from the government to foster innovation and drive digital transformation within the public sector, aiming for operational excellence and sustainable development across the CPSE ecosystem. The workshop in New Delhi marks the beginning of a series of such events planned across different regions of the country, with the aim to complete these by August 2025, ensuring a comprehensive integration of Industry 4.0 principles nationwide.
