Odisha’s IT Prowess Soars

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is rapidly positioning itself as a prominent center for electronics components manufacturing and innovation, a testament to the focused efforts and strategic vision championed by Electronics & Information Technology (E&IT) Principal Secretary Shri Vishal Kumar Dev.

This forward momentum was clearly highlighted at a recent dynamic investment promotion event held in Bhubaneswar, a collaborative initiative by the Manufacturers’ Association for Information Technology (MAIT), the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, and the Electronics & IT Department, Government of Odisha.

The event, held at Lemon Tree Premier, served as a crucial platform, bringing together senior government officials, industry leaders, academia, and startup pioneers. It underscored Odisha’s burgeoning potential as an innovation-driven manufacturing hub, particularly within the framework of MeitY’s ambitious Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), launched under the guidance of Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw.

Shri Vishal Kumar Dev, Principal Secretary, E&IT Department, Odisha, graced the roadshow as the Chief Guest, emphasizing the state’s unwavering commitment to technological advancement. His leadership has been instrumental in shaping Odisha’s proactive stance in the Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector.

Under his guidance, the state has been actively working on refining its electronics policy, incorporating crucial incentives such as exemptions on land premiums, power subsidies, stamp duty waivers, and human capital development incentives, all aimed at creating a comprehensive and supportive environment for the ESDM sector.

Shri Sushil Pal, Joint Secretary, MeitY, attended as the Guest of Honor, further signifying the central government’s support for Odisha’s initiatives. Strategic insights on the ECMS, outlining tailored incentives and forward-looking policies designed to attract focused investments into components manufacturing, were delivered by Shri Ashish Mishra, Scientist-C, MeitY. Following this, Lt. Col Harsh, DDG, MAIT, elaborated on MAIT’s pivotal role in facilitating industry engagement and strengthening the ecosystem through collaborative initiatives and policy advocacy.

A key highlight of the day was a visit to the World Skill Centre and IIT Bhubaneswar’s SiCSem Pvt Ltd. Participants witnessed firsthand Odisha’s unique strengths in advanced skilling infrastructure and cutting-edge material innovation – critical enablers for fostering a robust semiconductor and electronics ecosystem.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from over 80 industry representatives, including startups and MSMEs. Engaging one-on-one discussions between local ICT industry stakeholders and MeitY officials further solidified the event’s impact as a high-potential platform for accelerating investments in Odisha’s rapidly evolving electronics landscape.

Odisha is not only attracting significant investments but also building a sustainable ecosystem by nurturing talent and fostering innovation, setting a strong precedent for other states in India’s journey towards becoming a global electronics manufacturing powerhouse.
