President Droupadi Murmu Celebrates Birthday

New Delhi: Today, June 20, 2025, marks the birthday of India’s 15th and current President, Sharimati Droupadi Murmu. Born in 1958 in Uparbeda village, Mayurbhanj, Odisha.

President Smt.Murmu is the first person from a tribal community and the second woman to hold the highest office in India, having assumed the presidency on July 25, 2022.

Her journey to Rashtrapati Bhavan is a testament to her dedication and resilience. Prior to becoming President, she served as the Governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021, and earlier as a Member of the Legislative Assembly in Odisha for two terms, holding ministerial portfolios in various departments.

Throughout her public life, she has been a strong advocate for the empowerment of marginalized sections of society and for deepening democratic values.

President Murmu is currently on a three-day visit to Uttarakhand, which began on Thursday, June 19. Upon her arrival at Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, she was received by Uttarakhand Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, highlighting the formal reception accorded to the Head of State.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi were among those who conveyed their birthday greetings to President Murmu.

In a touching moment during her ongoing visit to Uttarakhand, President Smt.Murmu was visibly moved when differently-abled students of the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities sang a heartfelt birthday song for her. Such interactions often highlight the human connect and accessibility of the President’s office.

Traditional Indian birthday celebrations often involve seeking blessings from elders, visiting temples, and engaging in acts of charity such as feeding the poor or distributing essentials. While modern celebrations may incorporate elements like cake cutting, the core values of gratitude, reflection, and giving back to society often remain central.

As President Droupadi Murmu celebrates her birthday, the nation acknowledges her significant contributions and wishes her good health and a long life in her continued service to the country.
