Malkangiri: In a significant blow to the Maoist insurgency, security forces operating in Malkangiri district have reportedly eliminated three top Maoist cadres in a recent intelligence-led operation. Sources indicate this success marks a crucial step in the ongoing anti-Naxal drive in the region.
The operation, believed to have taken place in the dense forest areas of Maradpalli bordering Odisha and Chhattisgarh, involved a coordinated effort by state police and specialized anti-Maoist units. While details are still emerging, preliminary reports suggest a fierce exchange of fire between the security personnel and the Maoists, leading to the fatalities of the extremist leaders. Anti-Maoist Operations is going on.
This development comes on the heels of intensified anti-Maoist operations across the Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB) region, particularly in Malkangiri. In recent days, security forces have ramped up their efforts, leading to several arrests and surrenders of Maoist cadres. Notably, two hardcore Maoists, Kesa Kawasi and Rakesh alias Sanu Kunjam, both carrying significant bounties, were apprehended just last week after an encounter in Mathili block.
Police sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, highlighted the strategic importance of this elimination, stating that the deceased cadres were likely involved in planning and executing major attacks on security forces and civilians. The area has historically been a stronghold for the banned CPI (Maoist) outfit, and sustained operations have significantly weakened their presence.
The state government and security agencies have reiterated their commitment to eradicating Maoism from the state by March 2026, aligning with the Union Home Ministry’s national goal. This recent success is expected to further demoralize the remaining Maoist elements and encourage more surrenders, paving the way for greater peace and development in the tribal-dominated regions of Malkangiri.
