Bhubaneswar: In a significant push to empower the state’s youth and accelerate development, the Odisha government today organized a large-scale recruitment fair in Bhubaneswar, distributing appointment letters to 964 individuals across five key departments.
Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, addressing the newly appointed officers and employees, underscored the government’s commitment to harnessing “Yuva Shakti” (youth power) for societal welfare and state progress.
The recruitment drive, held at the Krishi Shiksha Sadan at OUAT, saw appointments made to 563 posts in the Public Works Department, 62 in the Water Resources Department, 117 in the Panchayat Raj and Drinking Water Department, 204 in the Housing and Urban Development Department, and 18 in the Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Department. The diverse roles include Junior Engineer, Junior Implementation Officer, Tracer, Legal Measurement Science Inspector, and Junior Accountant.
Chief Minister Shri Majhi congratulated the new recruits, reminding them that government service is fundamentally dedicated to public welfare. “Government jobs are always dedicated to public service. Therefore, I hope and believe that you will work towards fulfilling the hopes, aspirations and solving their problems by considering yourselves as public servants. You will ensure that every decision and action taken by you at the government level is based on public welfare,” he stated.
Highlighting a renewed focus on employment generation, the Chief Minister noted the accelerated pace of recruitment under the current administration. “The recruitment process in the government sector was going on slowly for the past few years. After our government came to power, we are creating immense employment opportunities by emphasizing the employment of youth in both the government and private sectors,” he asserted.
He further detailed the government’s ambitious targets, announcing a plan to fill 1.5 lakh government posts within five years, with 65,000 posts slated for the first two years. To date, 28,346 government positions have been filled, a figure the Chief Minister hailed as a “historic achievement.” He expressed confidence in surpassing the 65,000 target by June 2026. Beyond government roles, 45,000 youth have also secured employment in the private sector within the first year, bringing the total number of employed youth to 73,346 across both sectors.
The Chief Minister also spoke on broader initiatives aimed at youth empowerment, including raising the age limit for government employment to 42 years and promoting opportunities through “Industrial Development.” He highlighted “Excellence Odisha 2025,” which has reportedly generated 12.90 lakh employment opportunities across 16 sectors with an investment of ₹17 lakh crore. In the five months since its organization, 56 industrial establishments have been inaugurated or had their foundation stones laid, ensuring 1.10 lakh jobs.
Emphasizing transparency and integrity, Chief Minister Shri Majhi stated that strict laws have been enacted to ensure a clean and corruption-free recruitment process. He urged the new appointees to uphold these principles and dedicate themselves to the successful implementation of government welfare programs.
The event saw Ministers addressing the gathering, reinforcing the message of dedication to public service and the role of youth in shaping a prosperous Odisha. Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Minister Shri Krishnachandra Patra, Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr. Krishnachandra Mohapatra, and Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Shri Ravi Narayan Nayak all stressed the crucial contribution of young talents to the state’s progress.
