Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today addressed the media, delivering a powerful message of commitment to good governance, an unwavering fight against corruption, and an ambitious development agenda aimed at transforming Odisha into a leading state by 2036.
In a stern warning to corrupt officials, Chief Minister Majhi declared, “The most important thing is to provide good governance to the people and fight against corruption. Today, from PIO to IAS, no corrupt officer is safe. If they commit corruption, they will have to go to jail, there is no second option.” This statement underscores his government’s resolve to create a transparent and accountable administration, dismantling the long-standing nexus of corruption that has plagued the state.
Highlighting a paradigm shift in governance, the Chief Minister proudly stated, “Our government has demolished the artificial wall between the common man and the people. Today, anyone can meet their Chief Ministers and Ministers without any hindrance.” He shared his personal dedication, recounting his visits to every district of Odisha, where he met “lakhs of people directly, listened to their problems, shared their joys and sorrows.” This direct engagement, he asserted, signifies that “the ‘third floor’ is going to the doorsteps of the people, this is a new aspect of our good governance.”
Chief Minister Shri Majhi emphasized the rapid pace of his government’s initiatives, asserting that “We have proved in the first cabinet that 24 years of governance are not needed for public service, a lot can be done in 24 minutes. There should be willpower.” This echoes his administration’s philosophy of swift and decisive action.
Adhering to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mantra of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Triman and Sabka Mantra,” the Chief Minister affirmed his government’s continuous dedication to the four key communities: ‘Poor, Annadatas (farmers), Youth, and Women’.
He outlined several concrete steps taken and planned for the state’s development:
- Piped Drinking Water: An ambitious target has been set to provide piped drinking water to 90 percent of the state’s population by 2026.
- Antyodaya Scheme: The government plans to provide ‘Antyodaya Ghira’ (housing) to 5 lakh eligible beneficiaries.
- Job Creation: In just one year, approximately 28,000 government jobs have been provided, with an additional 40,000 jobs slated for this year.
- Infrastructure Boost: Significant improvements have been noted in railways, national highways, and air services, signaling a strong focus on connectivity and growth.
Looking towards the future, Chief Minister Shri Majhi articulated a clear vision for Odisha’s trajectory. “By 2036, Odisha will definitely be among the five best states in the country and we will make Odisha a $500 billion US dollar economy,” he declared. This economic target is coupled with the aspiration that “By 2036, Odisha will be a prosperous Odisha and by 2047, it will play a significant role in building a developed India as envisioned by Hon’ble Modi ji.”
The Chief Minister concluded by expressing confidence in the state’s progress. “We will work hard to make Odisha a model for all states. The fruits of that hard work have started to be seen. Odisha is slowly creating a model for other states,” he stated. He reiterated the core message of his government’s achievements, proudly stating, “Odisha is now a model for the whole country in good governance. We have achieved many successes in one year. ‘One year, many successes’.”
