COVID-19 Cases On Rise

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s active COVID-19 caseload has climbed to 11 today, with the detection of three new positive cases. This increase also tragically includes the state’s first reported COVID-19 death, raising concerns among health authorities.

While the State Health Department has confirmed the new infections, specific details regarding the locations of these cases are yet to be disclosed. Health officials have initiated robust contact tracing and containment protocols to prevent further spread of the virus.

The deceased, an elderly individual around 80 years old, had multiple comorbidities which are believed to have significantly worsened their health condition. The Health Department is yet to issue a formal confirmation directly attributing the death to COVID-19, though reports suggest the patient had tested positive days prior.

Health Secretary Aswathy S, while acknowledging the rise in cases, reiterated that the variant currently in circulation is considered mild and urged the public not to panic. She assured that the situation remains under control, and the state is equipped to manage the current caseload. However, citizens are advised to remain vigilant, adhere to basic safety protocols such as masking in crowded areas, and maintain good hygiene.

This development marks a return to double-digit active cases in Odisha, prompting intensified monitoring by health authorities. No fresh restrictions have been announced at this time.
