Bhubaneswar: The life and ideals of the revered 18th-century Maratha Queen, Punyashloka Ahilyabai Holkar, were brought to vivid life through an exquisite art exhibition inaugurated on 31 May at Jayadeva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar.
Organized jointly by the Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi and the Department of Odia Language, Literature and Culture, the exhibition marks the momentous occasion of Ahilyabai Holkar’s 300th birth anniversary.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi graced the inauguration as the Chief Guest, formally opening the artistic tribute. Director Culture, Bijaya Ketan Upadhyay, extended a warm welcome to the Chief Minister and other esteemed dignitaries.
Shri Upadhyay provided insightful details about the exhibition’s scope and significance. Chief Minister Shri Majhi was seen happy with the presentation of Shri Upadhyaya, pointed out a senior officer.
The exhibition features a captivating collection of artworks by talented artists who have meticulously and beautifully depicted the various facets of Ahilyabai Holkar’s biography and her profound life ideals.

Chief Minister Shri Majhi personally toured the exhibition, admiring the intricate details and powerful narratives portrayed in each painting, and offering words of encouragement to the participating artists.
The event saw the prominent presence of several key figures, including Speaker Surma Padhi, Deputy Chief Minister Parvati Parida, Urban Development Minister Krishna Chandra Mohapatra, Odia Language, Literature and Culture Minister Suryavansi Suraj, Ekamra MLA Babu Singh, and Brahmagiri MLA Upasana Mohapatra.
This cultural initiative not only pays homage to a remarkable historical figure but also fosters artistic expression and promotes a deeper understanding of India’s rich heritage.
