Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s tourism sector is witnessing significant developments, drawing increasing attention to its rich tapestry of cultural and natural heritage in global arena.
The state’s proactive participation in prominent international tourism events like the Great Indian Travel Bazaar (GITB) and the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) is proving instrumental in showcasing its diverse offerings to a global audience.

Odisha’s unique blend of ancient temples, vibrant tribal cultures, pristine beaches, and lush wildlife sanctuaries has long held appeal. Recent initiatives by the State Tourism Department are strategically highlighting these assets on national and international platforms.
At the recently concluded Great Indian Travel Bazaar, held in Jaipur from 4-6 May, in which Odisha’s pavilion garnered considerable interest from domestic and international tour operators.
The state showcased its iconic Jagannath Temple in Puri, the intricate stone carvings of Konark’s Sun Temple, and the serene landscapes of Chilika Lake, Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon. Cultural performances and interactions with local artisans provided visitors with a glimpse into Odisha’s vibrant traditions.

Similarly, Odisha’s presence at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai organized from 28 April to 1 May aimed at tapping into the burgeoning Middle Eastern travel market. Presentations focused on the state’s family-friendly destinations, eco-tourism initiatives, and its capacity to host MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism. The state also emphasized its well-developed hospitality infrastructure and connectivity.
“Our participation in these global events is a crucial step in positioning Odisha as a preferred tourism destination,” said a senior officer in Department of Tourism.
“We are keen to showcase the unique experiences that Odisha offers, from its spiritual heartland to its breathtaking natural beauty. The positive response we have received at GITB and ATM is encouraging”, said he.
Industry experts believe that Odisha’s focused approach on promoting its cultural and natural heritage aligns with the growing global interest in experiential and sustainable tourism. The state’s efforts to engage with travel professionals and highlight its unique selling points are expected to translate into increased tourist footfall and revenue in the coming years.
Furthermore, the state government has been actively investing in improving infrastructure, including road connectivity, accommodation facilities, and the development of new tourism circuits. These efforts, coupled with targeted marketing campaigns, are contributing to a positive outlook for Odisha’s tourism sector.
As Odisha continues to showcase its treasures on the global stage, the state is poised to emerge as a significant player in the international tourism landscape, offering a compelling alternative for travelers seeking authentic and enriching experiences.
