Bhubaneswar: The summer camp “Fun in Sun” at Pokhariput DAV Public School in the State Capital has become a mega hit with more than 500 students participating in the same. While the events under “Art Activities”, “Musical Sensation”, “Dancing Stars”, “Sports and Yoga” got over on Thursday last, the activities for tiny-tots with students from LKG to Standard II under “Crafts Haven” will continue till Tuesday.
The little ones under “Craft Haven” learnt the art of pasting, printing, paper crafts, bracelet making, hairband/hair clip designing, earthen pot decoration, stone art, kinder cooking, photo frame making and drawing.
Similarly under the “Art Activities” the students learnt clay modelling, paper mask making, tie and dye and craft work and under “Musical Sensation” music therapy with sargam, piano playing, “sishu sangeet” and patriotic songs in different languages while under “Dancing Stars” girls were given guidance in mastering Sambalpuri dance.
A participant from “Craft Haven” Vaddi Riyaan Kumar, a LKG student, said “I learnt the beautiful tricks of pasting, printing, paper crafts, bracelet making, hairband/hair clip designing, earthen pot decoration and now hope to do them independently so that when I will grow up, I can have a great hobby out of these.”
Another participant Adeesha Kanungo from Standard II said “cooking is an interesting part of our life and my mother makes tasteful dishes for the entire family. However, from kinder cooking I got nice ideas to make smart food from available resources at home and I liked that.”
While the activities by the tiny-tots under “Crafts Haven” from the morning session were coordinated by Snehaprabha Das, the “Musical Sensation” was coordinated and conducted by Santosh Kumar Kar, “Art Activities” by Bijay Kumar Panda and Rashmi Ranjan Das, “Dancing Stars” by Jagajit Das and “Sports and Yoga” by Deepak Kumar Behera, Nabakishore Mohapatra and Rajalaxmi Tripathy.
Principal of the school Bipin Kumar Sahoo while congratulating the students for their interests in the activities besides studies said “life skills apart from the book-based learning have a great impact on shaping our personalities and to have complete, happy and meaningful survival. Every student should develop to have at least one hobby along with his/her studies.”
Supervisor from the Morning Session at DAV Public School Pokhariput Sanghamitra Satapathy said “the Crafts Haven provided a perfect canvas for the tiny-tots to paint their wild imaginations and guided then to use their creative urges in a meaningful way as they are loaded with so much of energies and an urge to learn more and more things.
She also added that activity-based learning is a key focus under the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), emphasizing hands-on, experiential learning over traditional, lecture-based methods. This approach aims to make learning more engaging, promote student participation, and enhance understanding.
