Bhubaneswar: In a move aimed at streamlining the recruitment and management of Excise Constables, the State Government has decided to convert their cadre from the existing Divisional Cadre to a District Cadre. This significant decision was approved by the State Cabinet today, following a proposal from the Excise Department.
The shift to a District Cadre system is expected to facilitate a smoother and more efficient recruitment process for Excise Constables. Previously, recruitment and service management at the divisional level could present logistical challenges. By decentralizing the cadre to the district level, the government anticipates better local management and potentially faster recruitment cycles.
In light of this change, the Excise Department had proposed amendments to the Odisha Lower Excise Service (Method of Recruitment and Conditions of Service of Excise Constables) Rules, 2023. These amendments involve the insertion and extraction of specific rules and provisions to align with the service conditions of Excise Constables within the newly established District Cadre. The approved changes will ensure that the existing service rules are consistent with the operational realities of a district-level system.
Sources within the government indicate that this restructuring will lead to more localized control over the deployment and management of Excise Constables, potentially improving their effectiveness and responsiveness at the grassroots level. The move is also seen as a step towards strengthening the Excise Department’s overall operational efficiency.
This decision marks a significant administrative reform within the Excise Department and is expected to have a positive impact on the recruitment and service management of Excise Constables across the state.
