The 16th Central Financial Commission (CFC) led by renowned economist Dr Arvind Panagariya arrived here on a four-day visit to the State.
The 16th Finance Commission report, covering the five years beginning on 1 April 2026, is scheduled to be available on 31 October 2025. In this regard, the 16th Finance Commission is on a visit to Odisha for detailed discussions with state authorities before finalising its report.
The Finance Commission members will visit Khandagiri, Udayagiri and Kaalabhomi today while they are scheduled to visit Konark and Puri tomorrow.
The Commission Chairman and members would visit a Gram Panchayat during their visit to Konark and they would also visit Shree Jagannath Temple and Blue Flag beach in Puri.
On February 6, the CFC will hold a crucial meeting with the Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and his team in the morning. Dr Panagariya and the Chief Minister will also hold a joint press conference before the Commission leaves the State on the day.
Notably, the State Government has prepared a detailed proposal to be submitted before the Central Financial Commission and the State Cabinet has already approved the memorandum.
The State has prepared a proposal demanding a total fund of Rs 12,56,148 crore during the next five financial years.
The 15th Finance Commission (FC) headed by NK Singh had recommended a transfer of Rs 2.22 lakh crore to Odisha for five years from 2021 to 2026, against a demand of Rs 8.24 lakh crore.
This time, the State is likely to urge the Commission to give special emphasis to Odisha to achieve the ambitious goals of Vikasit Odisha by 2036, The State would also likely to demand special allocation under disaster management and capital outlay for creating vital infrastructures.
