State Care For Chilika

Bhubaneswar:; Additional Chief Secretary, Home, Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Satyabrata Sahu has said about 11.37 lakh winged guests visited Chilika.

ACS Shri Sahu  was speaking at 5th National Chilika Bird Festival at the Lok Seva Bhawan Convention Center here on 6 January.

He offered a perspective on the strategic commonalities between eco-conservation and tourism and reminisced on the history of the Chilika Bird Festival.

ACS Shri Sahu said that the aim of the National Chilika Bird Festival is to showcase the importance, significance and beauty of Chilika to the world.

He said Chilika is a destination and this is a pilgrimage for over a million-winged visitors of varied species, which undertake flights to the mighty but calm Chilika Lake – Asia’s largest brackish water lake.”

The local people must take responsibility for the protection of Chilika Lake and the birds that visit Chilika.

The state government is taking various steps for their alternative livelihood. He said that solar powered boats should be used in Chilika Lake.
