Cold Wave Grips State

Bhubaneswar: The cold wave continues to sweep across the State with the mercury dipping to below 10 degrees Celsius in 15 places in the State during last night.

The lowest temperature in Odisha was recorded at G. Udayagiri in Kandhamal district at 4.8 degrees Celsius, among hill stations, while among cities, Rourkela saw mercury plummet to 5.7 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said today.

The other places where the temperature plummeted below 10 degrees Celsius were – Similiguda (5.3), Phulbani (7), Jharsuguda (7.1), Daringbadi (7.5), Bhawanipatna (7.8), Angul (8), Kirei (8.3), Chiplima (8.4), Keonjhar (8.8), Dhenkanal & Sundargarh (9), Jagatsinghpur (9.5), Koraput (9.6), it said.

The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack continued to reel under coldwave as the minimum temperatures were recorded at 10.9 degrees Celsius and 11 degrees Celsius respectively.

Koraput town in south Odisha recorded at the lowest visibility ranging from 50 to 200 meters with dense fog prevailing. The steel city Rourkela had visibility ranging from 200 to 500 meters due to dense fog.

Stating that there is no large change in the minimum temperature at many places, the India Meteorological Department said a cold wave situation is expected to prevail in the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, and Angul during next 24 hours.
