ERSS Support In Twin City

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today inaugurated 30 Emergency Response Support Vehicles under the ‘Emergency Response Support System (ERSS)’ scheme for Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police.

Additonal Chief Secretary Home,Satyabrata Sahu graced the occasion as a Honorable Guest and welcomed Chief Minister Shri Majhi.

DGP Y B Khurania, Additional DGP, Dayal Gangwar, and Commissioner Of Police S Devdatt Singh were present in the occasion.

The ERSS scheme is a Government of India scheme. The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019 for immediate police action in case of emergency after the Nirbhaya incident in Delhi.

Speaking as the Chief Guest at the function held at the Police Commissionerate here, the Chief Minister said that these 30 new vehicles will improve the efficiency of the police. These are not ordinary vehicles. These are security chariots. They symbolise justice, order, and an atmosphere of a society free from crime. The more these vehicles roll, the more people will get justice and their confidence will increase.

Chief Minister Shri Majhi said that about 10,000 posts in the Department of Police will be filled soon to further empower the police force. Home guards are an integral part of the police. The home guards in our state are doing a very good job. The ban on the appointment of home guards since 2020 has been lifted. Soon, 2,584 new posts will be created along with the 2,416 vacant posts. A total of 5,000 posts of home guards will be filled up, the Chief Minister said. He also said that a decision has been taken at the government level to increase the daily allowance of home guards.

The Chief Minister further said that out of the 30 vehicles launched in the Police Commissionerate today under the ERSS scheme, 22 vehicles will be operational in Bhubaneswar city and eight in Cuttack. This new vehicles will also work in place of the already defunct PCR vehicles.

CM Shri Majhi said that the ERSS scheme will strengthen the policing system and create a security environment. He also said that in the coming days, high-speed vehicles will be provided to the police for patrolling, immediate access to criminals and victims.

The Chief Minister further said that the state government is making all efforts to increase the strength of the police. Police is needed to work as a helpful friend for the people in the society and scale up the image of the police to an even higher level.

DGP Y B Khurania said, “Our ERSS vehicles have rendered commendable service to the people during cyclone Fani. These new vehicles will provide proper and speedy services to the people of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, he added.

Additional Director General of Police Dayal Gangwar were also present on the occasion. Commissioner of Police, S. Devdutt Singh gave a vote of thanks.
