Bhubaneswar: To provide speedy justice to women victims, the State Government has proposed to set up four Mahila Courts to try cases of crimes against women in different parts of Odisha.
This was informed by Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan here today. Speaking to media persons, Shri Harichandan said the State government will send the proposal to the Orissa High Court very soon.
He informed that the courts will try only cases of crimes against women. The Mahila Courts are dedicated to women-only cases and have female judges and prosecutors, he said.
The Minister said that the move will help women victims to narrate their stories without hesitation or shame before the prosecutors and judges.
Sometimes, it is also seen that when a male assistant public prosecutor asks the exact way of molestation from the women victims then due to hesitation or shame, they keep mum, due to which the entire justice delivery systems get affected and it results in acquittal of the case, said a senior lawyer.
So, the proposal of the State government will definitely help women victims to get speedy justice.
