IMD Warns Cyclone Possibility!

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) today said that a cyclonic storm is likely to form over East Central Bay of Bengal by October 23 and move towards Odisha-West Bengal coast by October 24 morning.

In a special message, the IMD said upper air cyclonic circulation formed over Central Andaman Sea on yesterday lay over North Andaman Sea in the early morning (5.30 AM) and persisted over the same region in the forenoon (8.30 AM) of today.

Under its influence, a low pressure area is very likely to form over the East Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining North Andaman Sea during next 24 hours, it said.

The weather system is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression by October 22 morning and into a cyclonic storm by October 23, over East Central Bay of Bengal.

Thereafter, it is very likely to move northwestwards and reach northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha-West Bengal coasts by October 24 morning, the IMD forecasted.

Following the IMD forecast, the State Government has geared up to tackle the possible cyclone, which is expected to reach toward the Odisha-West Bengal coast.
