1373 CR For AMRUT 2.0

New Delhi: The Government of India has allocated Rs 1,373 crore to Odisha for implementation of various projects under Jal Jeevan Mission (Urban) or Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0.

This was informed by Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Kaushal Kishore in Lok Sabha on Thursday.

While replying to a question of BJD MP Ramesh Majhi, Kishore said that AMRUT 2.0 was launched on October 1, 2021 for a period of 5 years i.e., from the financial year 2021-22 to 2025-26.

The Mission aims at making the cities ‘water secure’ and provide universal coverage of water supply through functional taps to all households in all the statutory towns in the country. Mission also aims at providing sewage/ septage management to all households of 500 cities covered in the first phase of the AMRUT scheme, he said.

For Odisha, he said, Rs 1,373 crore has been allocated as central assistance (CA) for implementation of projects under AMRUT 2.0. So far, 147 projects worth Rs 2,923.10 crore (including operation & maintenance cost) with committed CA of Rs 1,146.51 crore have been approved by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).

Of these, Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) have been prepared for 76 projects worth Rs 1,075 crore (capex cost). So far, Notice Inviting Tenders (NITs) have been issued for 70 projects worth Rs 966 crore, of which 61 projects worth Rs 858 crore are in progress & 4 projects worth Rs 16 crore have been completed, the Union Minister stated.

He also informed that tap water connections have also been provided through AMRUT Mission, which got subsumed under AMRUT 2.0, under which central assistance for ongoing and eligible projects of AMRUT shall be provided till March 31, 2024.

Under AMRUT 2.0, Central funds for the States/ Union Territories have been sanctioned for the entire mission period.

The total CA allocated for all the States/ Union Territory (UT) under AMRUT 2.0 is Rs 66,750 crore for projects. During the last three years including the current year, Central assistance worth Rs 6,194 crore has been released for projects against which utilisation certificates of worth Rs 217.44 crore have been received, he added.

Further, the MoS said, AMRUT 2.0 empowers States/ UTs to select the projects, define their scope of works and implement the projects in respective Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). States have been given freedom to design, approve and implement the projects in respective ULBs.
