Bhubaneswar: Expressing anguish over violence during Hanuman Jayanti procession in Sambalpur, BJP National President J. P. Nadda has formed a panel to investigate the violence.
Shri Nadda has constituted a four-member inquiry committee to probe the violence during Hanuman Jayanti procession in Odisha’s Sambalpur on April 12 and 14 this year.
The team comprises four BJP MPs including Brij Lal, Samir Oraon, Aditya Sahu and Jyotirmay Singh Mahato. The panel will visit the violence-hit Sambalpur and submit its report to the President.
Recently, State BJP President Manmohan Samal along with several other party leaders had written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking NIA probe into the communal violence erupted during Hanuman Jayanti processions at Sambalpur and deteriorating law and order situation thereof.
Violence between two communities erupted after stones were allegedly pelted at the bike rally taken out to celebrate Hanuman Jayanti in Sambalpur on April 12 evening. Several police personnel and civilians were injured in the clash.
Similarly, violence incidents again occurred in the town on April 14 when Hanuman Jayanti procession was going on in the western Odisha town. A youth was allegedly stabbed to death, a few shops were torched and ransacked on April 14 night.
Later, the State Government clamped curfew and suspended internet services in the town for several days to restore normalcy in the town.
