Bhubaneswar: A major solace for family members, at least two victims, who sustained burn injuries in the Puri firecracker explosion incident, have been discharged from hospital today.
Altogether 36 people were injured in the explosion of a stockpile of firecrackers that happened during Lord Jagannath’s ‘Chandan Yatra’, a ritual, on the night of May 29 in Puri.
Hundreds of people had gathered on the banks of Narendra Pushkarinee in Puri to witness the rituals when the incident happened.
As per the advice of the doctor, two injured persons, identified as, Balram Das (15) and Manmohan Behera (24), who were under treatment at Cuttack’s SCB Medical College and Hospital, have been discharged from the hospital today, a statement issued by the Special Relief Commissioner’s office said.
Previously 6 injured persons have been discharged. Till now, 8 injured persons have been discharged from hospitals while 13 persons succumbed to their injuries. The Puri district collector has initiated a process to distribute announced ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased.
Meanwhile, SRC Satyabrata Sahu has started probing into the deadly blast while Puri police is also investigating into incident.
